Utah Elementary Robotics
The Utah Elementary Robotics competition event is that takes place on USU Physics Day at Lagoon, is coordinated independently of Utah State. Formerly called “LEGO Mindstorms” this event is administered and organized by UER, or Utah Elementary Robotics. Registration for these events are done through UER. See their page and email below. We hope you can join us!
Students compete in two events: A-Mazing Bots are built and programmed by two-person 5th grade teams to navigate and race through mazes, and Sumobots, built by two-person 6th grade teams battle it out in a sumo ring. The three types of robots that can be used in this event are the VEX IQ, LEGO Mindstorm EV3, and LEGO Mindstorms NXT (and possibly the newer LEGO Spike Prime). Schools usually start in March, but can start any time, as each team can meet only 15 times (1.5-2 hours each meeting) to build and program their robots for this event. This is the perfect event for elementary/middle school STEM and MESA clubs, home school groups, community robotics clubs, and also after-school programs.
